A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
