Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
