Man Charged with Trying to Kill in Gunfire Attack of National Football League Player Kris Boyd
A man has been formally accused with trying to kill someone in connection with the attack that targeted New York Jets professional athlete Kris Boyd.
Accused Individual Identified and Taken Into Custody
The individual charged is a 20-year-old Bronx resident, age 20. He was on Monday, charged with assault.
Circumstances of the November Incident
The violent shooting took place in the early hours of 16 November, near a well-known New York City restaurant. Law enforcement described the event as a confrontation with a group of strangers.
Boyd, age 29, was accompanied by teammates and a third companion in a central part of New York City when the argument started.
It resulted in a fight, during which police allege Green shot the athlete twice in the torso.
Critical Wounds and Recovery
The bullet hit Boyd's pulmonary organ and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but was later discharged.
Reports indicate he has met with his fellow players at a Jets practice facility.
Manhunt and Apprehension in Another City
Surveillance video from the area reportedly showed Green running away and entering a vehicle operated by another person.
Law enforcement arrested Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was allegedly staying at his partner's residence.
A official announcement stated that "an individual" had been taken into custody.
When law enforcement converged on the apartment complex, the suspect was seen "peeking out the apartment window searching for an escape avenue but retreated inside after spotting the team and a canine officer," the report said.
The confrontation concluded shortly thereafter, when the suspect left the residence with his hands up.
The suspect had "modified his looks presumably to not be recognized," authorities commented.
Boyd's Professional History
Before signing with the Jets this season, Boyd played the Arizona Cardinals over multiple seasons in the league.
The defensive player had been on injured reserve for the Jets after sustaining a shoulder injury during practice in August.
