Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
