Michael Jordan Testifies He ‘Wasn’t Afraid’ of Nascar in Legal Battle

The basketball icon, as he cordially introduced himself in a federal courtroom on Friday, stated that his competitive side and status as a newcomer motivated his push for 23XI Racing to confront Nascar over perceived violations of competition laws.

“It fell to someone to act,” Jordan said during testimony. “As a newcomer, I had no fear. I felt I could challenge Nascar in its entirety. I felt as far as the sport required examination from a different view.”

The Core Dispute: Franchise System and Renewal Demands

At issue is the expiration of a 2016 deal where Nascar provided each team a franchise. The concept is similar to other major leagues with separately owned franchises, like the Charlotte Hornets or the Carolina Panthers. This deal was set to expire in 2024 when Nascar demanded charter membership renewals.
