The Pharaohs Bench Mohamed Salah as Angola on Brink of Afcon Exit.

A thrilling set-piece moment from the match.

The Angolan winger delivered a delightful set-piece against the woodwork as Angola and Egypt shared a stalemate.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Etihad striker Omar Marmoush watched from the bench as the group leaders Egypt were held to a draw with Angola at the Afcon 2025.

The record winners, having clinched top spot, deployed an completely rotated starting XI and were missing a cutting edge in Agadir.

Angola, who required a victory to keep their hopes alive, will now face a nervous wait to see if their two points is enough to advance for the knockout stage as one of the four best-placed third-place teams.

Several other nations are already guaranteed at least third place in their pools, all boasting three points.

Match Key Moments

Attacker Fredy struck the woodwork for Angola shortly after the second half, while Zizo – one of three halftime changes by the Pharaohs – stung goalkeeper Hugo Marques' palms with a shot from inside the box.

Salah and Marmoush had scored earlier in the tournament in victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, respectively.

Egypt will remain in Agadir to face a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their opponents to be determined after the group stage concludes on Wednesday.

In the other Group B closer, South Africa's victory over Zimbabwe sent Bafana Bafana through automatically, leaving Angola in a precarious position.

Pharaohs Miss Salah and Marmoush Presence

Mohamed Salah observing the match from the sidelines.

The Liverpool star observed Egypt fail to score in an Afcon match for the first occasion since the 2021 final.

With first place secured, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan might have hoped for a more convincing attacking performance from his second string.

Mostafa Mohamed, who netted four goals at the 2023 finals, created an early chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the centre-back looped his header wide of the target.

Angola, having made seven changes themselves, almost went ahead when Chico Banza combined with Mabululu before firing a shot wide.

The first half ended without a shot on target, though Fredy caused goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action with a powerful long-range strike.

The Angolan captain was the most dangerous source, seeing a set-piece beat the goalkeeper but crash against the woodwork.

At the other end, Salah Mohsen was stunned after almost prodding in a cross, only for the goal to be flagged offside.

Late efforts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy could not break the deadlock, ensuring the match finished goalless.

For Angola, quarter-finalists in 2023, their inconsistent showings in Morocco will lead to scrutiny about their recent managerial change.
